Project Overview

At a construction site near a residential area, the operation of Aggreko power generators caused noise levels that exceeded legal limits, posing a challenge for the construction team and disturbing the local residents. DECIBEL was called in to design a solution to reduce the noise produced by these generators, ensuring compliance with local noise regulations while maintaining site operations.

The Challenge

DECIBEL was tasked with reducing the noise from the power generators, which exceeded permitted levels in a nearby residential area. The solution needed to be efficient without interfering with the cooling system of the generators or the required maintenance work. The soundproofing solution also needed to be implemented in a compact site area with a focus on both vertical and horizontal noise containment.

Scope of Work

• Construct a 4m high soundproofing barrier around the power generator sector using DECIBEL's metal perforated PZP panels.
• Install additional perforated sound insulation panels to contain noise propagation beyond 4m height.
• Design a system that allows for generator cooling and easy access for maintenance tasks.

The Solution

DECIBEL installed a 4m tall soundproofing barrier made from metal perforated PZP panels around the generator area, successfully blocking horizontal noise transmission. To address vertical noise, additional sound insulation panels were installed close to the generators, limiting noise propagation above 4m. The design ensured that the generators remained cool and fully accessible for regular maintenance, providing an all-encompassing soundproofing solution.
