Project Overview

Magna Seating, a global leader in automotive engineering and design, approached DECIBEL to resolve excessive noise caused by two perforation machines in their production facility. These machines generated over 95dB, which affected workers across the factory due to the open production line setup. Magna needed a soundproofing solution that would reduce noise levels without disrupting their line production.

Challenge

The perforation machines produced noise levels exceeding 95dB, which reverberated throughout the factory, impacting productivity and the well-being of workers in nearby areas. Since Magna operates a line production system, any interruptions to the workflow could cause significant delays. Therefore, the challenge was to design a solution that provided effective noise reduction while fitting within the limited available space and avoiding any disruption to the production process.

Scope of Work

• Design and install a custom noise enclosure around the two perforation machines.
• Ensure the enclosure allows uninterrupted line production, with feed-throughs for the production line.
• Use materials that offer high soundproofing and durability, suited for a factory environment.

Solution

DECIBEL engineered a custom enclosure specifically tailored to the perforation machines. The enclosure was designed without a ceiling to avoid interference with the production line, while small feed-throughs were integrated on each side to allow continuous workflow. Constructed from galvanised steel and perforated on the inner surfaces, the enclosure ensured excellent noise reduction, reducing the dB levels effectively without compromising the factory’s operations.
