Project Overview

In 2019, DECIBEL entered the South African market, making high-quality acoustic products from Bulgaria accessible to clients in Johannesburg, Pretoria, and surrounding areas. In late 2020, Aronia Day SPA in Johannesburg’s most prestigious neighbourhood contacted DECIBEL’s local representative to resolve a noise issue impacting their client experience. Known for its one-day relaxation packages, the SPA also features a café area where coffee, ice, and mixing machines produce considerable noise. The reverberation amplified the echoing sound in the high-ceilinged café, creating an atmosphere that was more disruptive than relaxing. DECIBEL’s team installed specialised acoustic wall panels to absorb noise and reduce echo, transforming the café area into a peaceful retreat within the SPA.

Challenge

The café area of Aronia Day SPA faced significant noise and reverberation issues due to machinery operation. High ceilings amplified echoes, resulting in a constant hum that disturbed the intended relaxing ambience. The goal was to control noise levels while preserving the aesthetic standards of this upscale SPA environment.

Scope of Work

• Consultation and Assessment: Conducted an on-site evaluation to measure noise levels and identify problem areas within the café.
• Design & Customisation: Recommended and designed custom acoustic wall panels, with shapes and colours tailored to align with the spa’s luxurious decor.
• Installation: Coordinated with local installers who followed the installation manual, utilising mounting foam for a streamlined setup process.

Solution

To address the SPA's acoustic needs, DECIBEL provided high-performance fabric-covered wall panels in various colours and designs, strategically placed on key walls in the café. These panels, manufactured in Bulgaria and certified in Europe, offered an immediate reduction in reverberation and sound reflection. Available in standard and non-standard sizes across 22 colours, DECIBEL panels helped balance the aesthetic and acoustic needs of the space, giving it a refined, tranquil feel.

Result

The completed installation yielded a noticeable reduction in noise levels and echo, providing Aronia Day SPA’s café with a serene ambience that aligns with the SPA’s commitment to high-end relaxation experiences. Clients now enjoy a peaceful environment, free from distracting noise. The installation process was efficiently managed by local installers and completed within a few weeks, using mounting foam and clear instructions provided by DECIBEL.
